its friday!

well hmm.
it seems like Holden needs a lot of help. not even psychiatric help, necessarily. he needs some friends, but he's never going to get any with that attitude of his. i feel bad for him... when his brother died, he probably was feeling a lot of things, but he had to go off to boarding school, so he couldn't talk to his sister or brother or anyone about it. i think that when his brother died, all his emotions stayed inside and he found some sort of hatred for the rest of the world.

its understandable. i've never haad a relative die, but if someone really close to you dies for no reason, you might wonder.." why them? they were such a good person. why does the rest of the world deserve to live?" so maybe he's feeling something like that. probably :)

  1. But it's been a long time since his brother died. I think he needs to move on from his death and take his brother's death as a way to grow up. I lost my grandmother recently and there are some days when it's hard but in the end in order to grow as a person, you have to take the death and move on. I think that is what Holden needs to do.

  2. I agree with you Haley that some of his emotions can be blamed on his brothers death but at the same time that was a long time ago and he sould move on and not be so mean to everyone. I also think he needs to find some more closer friend because if he had those he wouldnt be so mad all the time.

  3. Emmett I agree with you... Im sure he has all these emotions inside from his brothers death but that can only do so much. It has been a while and usually people learn to get over it or deal with it. I just kind of think he doesnt want to change, he could get close with the few little friends he has but he always just chooses not to..

  4. Great conversation started! Tanner, it makes sense when you said "I think he (Holden) doesn't want to change." He might want to connect and make some friends (and we've seen this attempt with Stradlater, Jane, and Ackley), yet, he always gets reminded of the phoniness of the world. It's frustrating. Sometimes it's hard to find trustworthy, real people in the world. I think because Holden is so frustrated, he chooses to alienate himself from all it is.

Whereas most people just deal with it.
